Americans drink more than a billion glasses of tap water per day. Yes, you read that right… a billion!  Whether our source of water is coming from a stream, river, lake, or a spring, the water is coming from a water treatment facility or a private well. We are ALL using the same water from thousands of years ago.

The benefits of tap water:

  • Less waste
  • Managed regulations that are required and frequent testing of tap water for bacteria such as coli and other harmful contaminants
  • EPA ensures standards for the quality of drinking water
  • EPA also works with various partners to implement technical and financial programs to ensure drinking water
  • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)-Is the federal law that protects public drinking water supplies throughout the

These are all things to ensure that the water you are drinking is safe; however, it is still possible to have some of the following signs show up:

  • white deposits on fixtures
  • metallic smell and/or taste
  • yellow tint leaving orange stains in your sinks, toilets, and bathtubs Are you experiencing any of those signs?

Even though it is still safe for you to drink the water due to all the efforts stated above, that is slightly different than absorbing water through your skin.

Our skin is porous and absorbs water which is a much longer process than merely drinking it.

At Bill Fry the Plumbing Guy, we have professionals on staff that can test your water for excess minerals and metals to include calcium, iron, and radium.

These are all chemicals that can lead to the hardness of water which makes cleaning a real chore, limits the life of appliances, decreases water flow, efficiency, and is also a culprit of outbreaks in skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, and yes, it can even make your tap water taste a little funny.

There are many options that can be given upon a water analysis such as installing a softener or conditioner that combats excess minerals and metals. There is also a water refining system which does everything a softener does and removes chlorine. Many municipalities attempt to kill bacteria by adding chlorine to water, and that may not be ideal for your family and home.

Lastly, another option would be to add a Reverse Osmosis Drinking unit to purify your water. This system removes-

  • Radium
  • Lead
  • Nitrates
  • Chlorine
  • Arsenic

Installing a softener, conditioner and or refiner with a reverse osmosis system will give you better quality water right from the tap. You will no longer have to spend extra money on bottled water and your skin will thank you for it!
